One little lino stamp can go a surprisingly long way, from a simple cushion cover to a whole tablecloth.

In this workshop, you'll create your own lino stamp and use it to print onto fabric. You can draw your design from scratch, bring along an idea you've been wanting to try, or choose from a selection of designs available at the studio.
We'll explore how simple shapes and patterns can be turned into prints, then you'll carve your design into soft lino and experiment with different ways of arranging and repeating it on fabric. You can use one of the cotton cushion covers provided at the studio, or bring along your own textiles to print on.

Perhaps you'd like to make a tablecloth or napkins for your Christmas table, give a plain table runner a new look, or create something handmade as a gift. You could even bring a set of curtains you've been meaning to do something with. And if you're working on something larger, you can take your lino stamp home and carry on printing in your own time.
No previous experience is needed and no need to have a plan, sometimes the best ideas come once you get started.

What to Expect at the Workshop

Create your own design, bring an idea or use one of the studio templates.
Learn how to transfer your design onto soft lino and carve your own printing block.
Experiment with printing, repeating patterns and arranging your design.
Print onto a cotton cushion cover provided by the studio, or bring your own suitable textiles.
Take your handmade lino stamp home to use again.
All printing tools, inks and materials are provided.

Important Info & Terms

This workshop is suitable for adults and young people aged 16+, as we'll be using sharp carving knives to cut our lino designs. No previous printing experience is needed.
If bringing your own textiles, please choose clean, washed and ironed natural fabrics such as cotton or linen. Smooth, tightly woven fabrics generally give the best printing results.
Larger projects, such as tablecloths or curtains, can be started during the workshop and continued at home using your lino stamp.
