During this workshop, you will create a basic bodice block and sleeve block, learn how they work together and explore how simple pattern changes can create completely different garment designs.
This workshop focuses entirely on pattern cutting and garment construction techniques.
No sewing is included.
Why we work with standard UK sizesFor this workshop, everyone works from standard UK sizes (UK 8–24) instead of personal measurements.
This helps you focus on understanding how pattern cutting works without getting overwhelmed by fitting adjustments too early. A basic block is a foundation, not a finished personalised pattern.
Once you understand the structure, it becomes much easier to adjust patterns for different body shapes and fitting needs. I’ll also explain how these blocks can later be adapted and manipulated for individual figures.
You’ll learn how darts shape a garment, how they can be moved around the pattern, and how one simple block can be turned into many different top designs.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll also transform your bodice and sleeve blocks into a raglan-style top pattern using a few simple pattern changes.
This workshop is suitable for:- complete beginners interested in pattern cutting
- students wanting a structured introduction to garment construction
- previous 5-week course students looking for a refresher
- anyone who never quite got around to properly drafting their own size blocks and would like support and guidance while doing it
