During this workshop, you will create a basic skirt block and learn how a few simple pattern changes can create completely different skirt styles.
This workshop is all about understanding pattern cutting in a simple, approachable way.
No sewing is included.

Why we work with standard UK sizes
For this workshop, everyone works from standard UK sizes (UK 8–24) rather than personal measurements. This helps you focus on understanding how skirt blocks and pattern shapes work first, without getting stuck on fitting adjustments too early.
Once you understand the method, you can begin changing and adapting the block into many different skirt designs.
You will also learn how the block can be adjusted to your own measurements and adapted for different body shapes and personal fit.

By the end of the course, you’ll know how to create:
  • a classic straight skirt
  • an A-line skirt
  • a gathered panel skirt
You’ll also learn how shaping works in skirts, and how fullness and silhouette can be changed through simple pattern manipulations — showing how one basic block can become many different styles.

This workshop is suitable for:
  • complete beginners curious about pattern cutting
  • anyone wanting to better understand how clothes are constructed
  • previous 5-week course students looking for a refresher
  • anyone who never got around to properly making their own size blocks and would like some guidance and support while doing it

FAQ
  • Do I need any sewing experience?
No — this workshop focuses entirely on pattern cutting and understanding how garments are constructed. No sewing is included.
  • Is this workshop suitable for complete beginners?
Yes. Everything is explained step by step, so no previous pattern cutting experience is needed.
  • Will I work in my own size?
Yes — everyone will work in their own chosen standard UK size (UK 8–24)
  • Why are we not using personal measurements?
The goal of this workshop is to understand the method and structure behind pattern cutting first, without getting overwhelmed by fitting adjustments too early.
Once you understand the process, you’ll be able to use the same method later in other sizes too. I’ll also explain how blocks can be adapted further for individual body shapes and fitting adjustments.
  • Will we make actual clothing?
No — this is a pattern cutting workshop rather than a sewing class. The focus is on learning how patterns are created and transformed.
  • Do I need to bring anything?
All basic materials and tools will be provided.
I’d also recommend bringing a notebook and pen for notes throughout the day. There’s a lot of useful information, tips and explanations covered during the workshop, so it’s always helpful not to rely on memory alone.
  • How many people are in the class?
This workshop is taught in a small group of 6, so there is plenty of time for questions, guidance and individual support throughout the day.
