Colour Theory and Composition
Get started by mastering the basics of the color wheel and various composition styles. Learn how to blend harmonious color combinations and apply them in your own artwork.
You’ll explore how colours interact with one another, learn how to manipulate inks to achieve stunning effects, from soft gradients to dynamic bursts of colour. We'll discuss how different palettes can evoke various moods and feelings—whether you're aiming for a calm, serene piece or a bold, energetic artwork. You’ll learn the techniques to guide a viewer’s eye through your piece, using balance, focal points, and the effective placement of colours. By the end of the session, you’ll have created your first alcohol ink art work, applying your newfound knowledge of colour relationships and composition to design a piece that expresses a specific emotion or mood.

Take your skills to the next level by exploring the art of mark-making and ink-lifting techniques. You’ll focus on producing stunning botanical-themed artwork.
In this session, you’ll experiment with different paper types and ink variations, discovering how surface is affecting the outcome of your art. You will learn how to use various tools to create effects and patterns.
Additionally, you’ll learn how to select the right varnish and apply it to protect and preserve your work, giving it a professional finish.

Optical Illusions and Brush Work
In Week 3, you’ll embrace the philosophy that less is more, refining your technique to prioritise shape creation over colour. This week’s lesson is all about refining your control over the ink using brushes. Our goal is to create a mesmerizing circular artwork that plays with optical illusions and the interplay of light and colour. You’ll experiment with minimal colour palettes, learning how just a few hues can highlight and complement the forms within your piece.

Ink on New Surfaces – Tile & Canvas
Experiment with non-traditional surfaces for alcohol ink like canvas, tiles. You’ll discover how these surfaces react differently compared to paper, opening up exciting new possibilities for your artwork. Understand how the ink interacts with the canvas fibres and explore the smooth, non-porous surface of tiles.
